"Leaning into discomfort doesn’t change it because you’re trying to fix it—
It changes because you stopped trying to fix it."
— Ahmy Brock

Introduction: The Contradiction We All Feel

Have you ever been told to lean into your discomfort—only to wonder if that’s just another form of trying to fix it? I’ve had that thought. More than once. Isn’t leaning in… still doing something?

The Truth About “Leaning In”

Let’s be real. We live in a culture that’s addicted to doing. Fixing. Optimizing.
So the idea of simply being with our discomfort feels counterintuitive—maybe even irresponsible. But here’s the sacred paradox:
When we meet our discomfort without trying to make it go away, that’s when something finally shifts. Because the body, the heart, the energy—all of it responds to safety. To presence. Not to pressure.

What “Fixing” Actually Does

When we try to fix ourselves, we often reinforce the story that something is wrong.
That we’re broken.
That this feeling shouldn’t be here. But your emotions aren’t mistakes.
They’re messages.
They’re invitations to pause, pay attention, and respond with love—not urgency.

The Role of the Spirit in the Discomfort

My spirit self doesn’t rush in to save my human from discomfort.
It sits beside her.
Encourages her to feel.
Whispers things like:
“You’re safe.”
“You’re allowed to feel this.”
“I’m not going anywhere.” And you know what happens next?
My human starts to breathe again. That’s the shift.
That’s the transformation.

You’re Not Contradicting Yourself—You’re Practicing Paradox

If you’ve ever felt like your healing journey is full of contradictions, I want you to know:
You’re not failing.
You’re evolving. Healing lives in paradox.

Presence is the path.
And sometimes, not doing is the most powerful doing of all.

Integration Prompt:

The next time you feel discomfort rising—pause.
Don’t try to fix it.
Just get curious:

What is this feeling really asking for?
Can I sit with it for just one breath longer?
Can I let my spirit comfort my human, without rushing in to fix?

Let that be your practice today.  🩷

Reminder:
You don’t have to do life perfectly. (That’s impossible anyway.)

Just be willing to do it—consciously, deliberately, and with connection.
